Our Story
Africartgroup LLC was founded with a passion for the arts and a vision to create a platform that highlights the incredible diversity and depth of African artistic expressions. At the heart of our initiative is Boureima Nabaloum, a pioneering artist whose work embodies the spirit of Africartgroup. Known affectionately as “Picasso” from a young age, Boureima has made significant contributions to the artistic landscape of Burkina Faso and beyond.
Meet Boureima Nabaloum
Boureima Nabaloum, is an Artist painter professional (Self-thought) often referred to as “Picasso,” is a visionary artist whose work embodies the intersection of African traditionalism and contemporary art. His dynamic and expressive creations span across painting, illustration, and comic art, making significant contributions to the artistic landscape of Burkina Faso and beyond.
Early Life and Education
Born in Bobo-Dioulasso in 1985, Boureima grew up in Yako, northern Burkina Faso, under the care of his grandfather. His passion for drawing ignited during his early childhood and by the age of 15, he had fully committed himself to the craft. Boureima’s education in Yako laid the foundation for his artistic journey, where he developed a distinctive style influenced by both African aesthetics and the works of Pablo Picasso.
Major Achievements
Painter and Illustrator: Boureima Nabaloum’s paintings are vibrant and energetic, echoing the strength and expression of traditional African art. His distinctive style draws inspiration from both African aesthetics and the works of Picasso, creating a unique blend of traditional and modern art forms.
Comic Artist: As a comic artist, Boureima has made significant contributions to publications such as L’essentiel du Faso and The Étaloon. His notable works include:
- One Hundred Years of Senghor (Atelier du Sya, 2006)
- La Bande dessinée conte l’Afrique (Dalimen Éditions, 2009)
- Africa Comics (Lecitoyen, 2010)
His critically acclaimed comic book, The Awakening of the Albino Masks, explores themes of African initiation rituals and traditional values through educational storytelling. This work earned him the Bronze Manga Award from the Japanese Embassies in 2013, highlighting his role in promoting cultural exchange between Japan and Burkina Faso.
Boureima’s work is celebrated for its originality, blending comic realism with burly features and complex scripts. His themes often focus on historical subjects grounded in African tradition, using art as a powerful educational tool. His dedication to promoting cultural heritage through his art has made him a global ambassador for Burkinabé culture and art.
Exhibitions and Festivals
- Exhibition Highlights: Boureima’s works have been showcased in various national and international festivals, including those in Algeria, Mali, and France. Notably, his exhibition “Les Passagers du Soleil” in Paris highlighted the vibrant life and culture of Burkina Faso.
- Festival Participation: Boureima is a regular participant at the FIBDA in Algiers and has exhibited at festivals in Mali and Europe, such as Vouillé and Amboise in France, and Plumes d’Afrique in Tours.
Centre Atelier Racine
In 2006, Boureima founded the Centre Atelier Racine (CAR) to unite and support comic artists across Burkina Faso. This initiative led to the creation of the Ouagadougou Comic Drawing Festival (FEBDO) in 2014, fostering a dynamic community of artists and promoting the ninth art.
